A great big thanks to our guest reader at story time on Friday, Ms. Kathy Witt and her preschool kids. She read several books to us about Spring. The first story, Mouse’s First Spring by Lauren Thompson, followed little mouse as he ventured off into the woods for the first time. There were many early springtime things to see. She also read Over In The Garden by Jennifer Ward. This story taught us counting with eye-catching garden critters. Then the kids learned a simple springtime poem and used a set of 5 die-cut umbrellas to show they know their colors. This is the poem:

FIVE UMBRELLAS
Five umbrellas stood by the back door,
The red one went outside, then there were four.
Four umbrellas, pretty as could be,
The blue one went outside, then there were three.
Three umbrellas with nothing to do,
The green one went outside, then there were two.
Two umbrellas not having much fun,
The yellow one went outside, then there was one.
Just one umbrella alone in the hall,
The purple one went outside and that was all.
