Falling In Love With Soup and Angels

I have recently become a huge fan of Sharon Creech’s work. It all started when the Mom and Me book club chose to read Granny Torrelli Makes Soup for the month of March. Not being a member of that particular club, I was not planning on reading it but after being heavily recommended by fellow co-workers I decided to give it a try. I must have read that book in no more than three days tops. I instantly fell in love with the characters, the voice and the message held within the pages. It is a sweet story about friendship, love and life all centering around a bowl of Granny Torrelli’s home-made soup.

The other day as I was walking around the store, an adorable cover of a new book I had not seen before caught my eye. It was Sharon Creech’s newest book, The Unfinished Angel. Remembering how much I had loved Granny Torrelli Makes Soup, it did not take long for me to fall in love with this book as well. It is simply adorable! That is the best way I can think to describe it. This tells the story of a little angel who finds purpose and friendship when least expecting it. The voice and style of this story is very similar to that of Granny Torrelli Makes Soup but it has its own unique language and messages.

Both of these books are great choices for all ages. The short chapters make it easy for young readers to stay focused. While it also gives the more experienced readers a chance to escape the world for a moment, laugh a little, and once again taste the blissful innocence of youth.
