Bats at the Beach

The featured book for story time on, Friday October 10, was “Bats at the Beach” written and illustrated by Brian Lies

“Quick, call out! Tell all you can reach: the night is just perfect for bats at the beach!” The children attending story time on Friday were able to enjoy the delightful fun and poetry of bats using moon-tan lotion, playing games, making friends from other places, being turned into kites, surfing and enjoying yummy treats such as milkweed bugs, pickled slugs, and bug-mallows toasted over open fires on the beach. Brian Lies lives on the south shore of Massachusetts with his family where they enjoy watching bats soar on summer evenings. After listening to the story, the children put together their own “textured” beach scene using sandpaper for the beach, crimped paper for the ocean, craft foam for the moon, stickers for stars and fish and a coarse sandpaper starfish on the beach. The children were encouraged to compare the feel of each surface and describe them.

“Bats at the Library”, the newest book by Brian Lies, will be featured during story time on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10:00 am.
