Dancing Away at Storytime

Today’s storytime was filled with movement and dancing. Ms. Jeanine started off by reading From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. After each page of this interactive story, the children copied the actions of each animal (i.e. “I am a monkey and I wave my arms. Can you do it?”). The next book was Cha-Cha Chimps by Julia Durango. This story was filled with dancing chimps and other jungle animals. It sounded like the bookstore was filled with monkeys as the children joined with Ms. Jeanine in reading the repetitive text on each page (“ee-ee-oo-oo-ah-ah-ah! 10 little chimps do the cha-cha-cha.”).

With all the movement and dancing contained in these stories, having our own dance activity was the perfect way to top off storytime. With scarves in hand, the children danced to Wiggy Wiggy Wiggles and The Chicken Dance.
